Today, Thijs and myself had to go to the FRRO, Foreign Region Registration Office. A great name for a great bureaucratic office.

But first, Thijs (who has a quite strange visa) had to make statement that he would not try to get a job. This statement had to be made on a « 100 ruppes stamp paper », which basicaly means that we had to find a notary, and thus go to a court.

Here are some pictures of this nice building…

Now comes the reality : here notaries are waiting in front of the building, and if you want to have your papers, then you bargain with them. We had to haggle with three of them : the first one hadn’t got the right paper, the second one wanted to charge 1200 rupees, the third one was the good one.

Here you can see the place were the official papers are written (on a computer, which is already better than old type-writers !

Then we went inside the building, in order to get the stamp…

And finally we got our registration paper. It took only… seven hours !
